Next week we are bracing ourselves to a long trek to Kenmare in Co. Cork stopping off in Thurles, Co. Tipperary on the way back. At least we are getting to see the country and will enjoy a pint in two of God's own counties. Mind you, we're as likely to enjoy a pint in any of God's counties (or countries for that matter) which serve a pint of the black stuff!
Audiences are loving Beatle Mal but we are finding that the recession continues to bite the bum of Ireland as it is in the UK. At first we thought it might have been us, the show, our own marketing but that's not really the case. Audiences seem to be down on other shows in the venues we are visiting. The only thing is to keep the faith and ride the storm! Audiences, venues and theatre companies are the lifeblood of theatre and we all have to pull together to make it work. Once a theatre shuts down, it would be very hard for it to reopen.
